Perkins expressed his excitement about their new home, Ine's Cottage, located in the heart of Taunton. He revealed an intriguing connection to the station's history, stating, "One of our founders, Phil Knighton, whose great-grandmother once lived in Ine's Cottage, would be proud to see Apple FM returning to its roots."
And this is the part most people miss... Apple FM's journey began in 1969 as Taunton Hospital Radio, later rebranding to Apple FM in 2013. The team had concerns about their future, fearing they might have to move their operations online. But their new home offers a glimmer of hope and a chance to continue serving the community.
Perkins emphasized the importance of their new location, saying, "We're incredibly fortunate to have found a wonderful building in the town center. It's a privilege to be a part of this historic space."
However, the road ahead is not without challenges. As volunteers, the team faces the task of transforming Ine's Cottage into a fully functional radio station. Perkins highlighted the need for extensive work, including setting up studios and moving equipment.
"It's a labor of love," he added. "We estimate it will take us around six or seven months to get everything in place and start broadcasting from our new home."
